I help small companies fix recurring IT problems and put AI to work.

More than 20 years in IT, from the help desk to cloud and infrastructure at a global investment bank. I now work directly with small companies as an independent consultant, covering the technology roles you can't justify hiring full time.

I'm Dan Wassell, an independent IT consultant.

Small companies often depend on technology that nobody fully owns. Systems grow, suppliers change, the same faults keep returning, and AI adds a new set of decisions. I step in as a senior, independent adviser: I find what is actually wrong, explain it in plain English, fix it or direct those who will, and leave you with clear documentation.

How I can help

Problem management

Recurring faults are rarely random. I investigate the root cause, explain what I find in plain English, fix the underlying issue and put controls in place so it doesn't return.

Hi, I'm Dan.

I've spent more than 20 years in IT, from supporting users on the help desk to leading cloud and infrastructure work at a global investment bank and an international media company. I've designed systems, run large technical changes, managed suppliers and contracts, and worked hands-on with the latest AI tools.

About

Questions

Who do you work with?

Small UK companies, typically between 5 and 100 people, that have little or no in-house IT leadership.

How do you charge?

I don't publish rates because every business is different. After an initial conversation I'll give you a clear figure for project work, or an agreed monthly arrangement for a retainer, before any work begins.

Is there a minimum commitment?

No long contracts. Retainers run month to month.

What happens on the intro call?

Thirty minutes, free, to understand what is going on. If I'm not the right person to help, I'll say so.

Do you provide a day-to-day helpdesk?

No. I'm not a replacement for a 24/7 helpdesk or on-the-ground support. I diagnose, improve and advise, and I work alongside whoever handles day-to-day support.

How do you handle our data and system access?

I work under a confidentiality agreement, use the least access needed for the task, and document everything I touch.

Where do you work?

Remotely, with clients across the UK.

Have an IT problem, or an AI question you can't get a straight answer to?

Tell me about it. I reply within one working day.
